It’s been called the ‘silent killer.’ Only about half of people with high blood pressure know they have it and even less are being treated yet experts warn high blood pressure or hypertension can lead to serious health problems such as heart attack and stroke.

According to a new report by Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, the impact of high blood pressure on the health of Canadians could be devastating and the sooner people with hypertension get their blood pressure under control the better their future heart health will be.

“Hypertension should be the concern of every person in Canada. It’s the leading cause of death in Canada. But it’s both controllable and preventable. It’s the leading risk of death and morbidity of all Canadians but the general population doesn't perceive that risk ” says Dr.Robert Petrella a renowned expert on hypertension and President of Blood Pressure Canada.
