“Identifying and Managing Obesity”
with Dr. Jean-Pierre Depres
According to the Canadian Obesity Network, close to 45% of Canadians are abdominally obese, a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
“Keep in mind this is not a weight issue you can be almost normal weight and be at high risk of diabetes and heart disease and on the other hand you might think you have weight problem from a body mass index standpoint and you might be perfectly healthy so this is why in clinical practice, it’s so important to measure waist circumference as a measure of abdominal accumulation,” says Jean Pierre Depres, MD, Director of Research at Laval University in Quebec.
For an in-depth look at managing obesity, we speak with Jean Pierre Depres, Director of Research, and Arya Sharma, Professor of Medicine, McMaster University and meet a patient participating in a new lifestyle intervention program.
