The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in Canada, especially for young people aged 15 to 24.  HPV can cause genital warts and cancers such as cervical cancer.  Most people will get an HPV infection at some point in their lives, yet many of them will not experience any signs or symptoms.  Dr. Vyta Senikas is concerned that, “Many people don’t know that they have the infection and therefore tend to transmit the infection rather easily.”  So she believes that it is important for health care providers to initiate the dialogue about HPV.
