“The Role of Implantable Defibrillators in Preventing Death from Cardiac Arrest”
with Dr. Chris Simpson, Kingston General Hospital, Ontario

“The Role of Implantable Defibrillators in Preventing Death from Cardiac Arrest” DVD is free and available to physicians to provide to their patients.

Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of death in Canada. It kills more than 40,000 Canadians each year, according to the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society. That’s more than lung cancer, breast cancer, and AIDS combined.
Only 5% of patients survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest….a frightening statistic…….but doctors now have a way to identify “high risk” patients and intervene, before an attack, with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).

“There are two major kinds of patients who should have an implant like this. The first type are those who are lucky enough to survive a cardiac arrest. But the vast majority of defibrillator implants should be occurring in people who we’ve identified as being at ‘high risk’ before having their first cardiac arrest,” says Dr. Chris Simpson, President of the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society and Director of the Arrhythmia Service at Kingston General Hospital in Ontario.

For an in-depth look at understanding cardiac arrest and the safety and efficacy of ICDs, we speak with Dr. Chris Simpson, Director of the Arrhythmia Service at Kingston General Hospital in Ontario and the President of the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society, a leading
cardiologist in Canada.
