Hypothyroidism is caused when the thyroid gland fails to produce a sufficient amount of thyroid hormones. Hypothyroidism is often undiagnosed, in part because many of the symptoms are so vague.

But when left untreated, hypothyroidism can lead to more serious health conditions like cardiovascular disease and depression.
