In this segment we learn about X-Linked Hypophosphatemia, or XLH, which is a rare inherited disease characterized by low levels of phosphate in the blood. Phosphate levels are low because phosphate is abnormally processed in the kidneys, which causes a loss of phosphate in the urine and leads to soft, weak bones, or rickets.
Dr. Aliya Khan, Director of the Calcium Disorders Clinic at McMaster University will share information about symptoms to look for, how it is transmitted from a parent to a child, and more.
Patient Crystal Ribiero will also share her XLH story.
